Innisbrook Resort Announces Renovation of North Golf Course
Salamander Hotels & Resorts is excited to announce a renovation of all greens on the North Course as well as other restorative enhancements honoring original design of Architect Larry Packard
Salamander Hotels & Resorts is announcing an immediate renovation of the putting surface on all 18 greens of the popular North Course at Innisbrook Resort, near Tampa Bay. The process began June 5, 2017 using a no-till method of turf replacement resulting in a firmer, more consistent playing surface. The greens will be planted with TifEagle Bermuda Grass – the same exceptional putting surface the PGA TOUR professionals raved about in this year’s Valspar Championship on Innisbrook’s Copperhead Course. Commonly referred to as “Little Copperhead” due to the similarities in terrain, the North Course is expected to re-open in early October, 2017.
Innisbrook’s Managing Director Mike Williams’ commented, “We couldn’t be more excited to watch the renovation process take place over the summer months. As a company, we strive to continually improve our amenities and this project reflects our commitment to always make sure our guests and members enjoy one of the finest golf experiences in the country.”
The renovation project will also include conditioning of the bunkers, general maintenance and clearing of all storm canals, and trimming and pruning to reduce shading and create access to the greens as originally designed by Larry Packard. The size of the greens will also be expanded where shrinkage has occurred over the years, allowing for additional pin placements. The North Course is one of four championship golf courses at the resort including the famed Copperhead Course – Home of the PGA TOUR’s Valspar Championship, with this project being the latest of numerous enhancements Salamander has made to the resort.
The Copperhead Course underwent a comprehensive restoration in 2015 to reopen that December to exceptional praise from resort guests and members, and the PGA TOUR in March 2016 as host course of the Valspar Championship. The project included a regressing of all fairways and rough, the rebuilding of each green, and reshaping of the bunkers. The course has been considered one of the top 10 host venues of a PGA TOUR event by the professionals, with special praise of the final three holes, known as the “Snake Pit”.
Innisbrook is located at 36750 U.S. Highway 19 North, Palm Harbor, FL 34684. For more information, visit www.VisitInnisbrook.com or call (727) 942-2000.
